RACHEL
A Story from a Mother
I started writing Ruby Awoken for my daughter, Ariel, when she was a young teen. I wanted her to be able to read a story that didn’t talk down to her and was clean. We always joke in our home that we’re a clan of Dwarves, so it only seemed natural to make the main character, Ruby, a female Dwarf. Ruby is a fanciful amalgamation of myself and my daughter.
Family Bonds
My husband and children are the most important people in my life. I have been married to my best friend, Ted, for almost 26 years. He is my biggest cheerleader and I am his. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to homeschool my kids from preschool to graduation. Having had a hand in raising two intelligent, loving, and kind adults is one of the greatest blessings in my life.
A Nerd Turned Writer
My love of fantasy comes from my dad. We would bond over watching Star Trek: Next Generation, Doctor Who, and various fantasy movies. (Check out Krull. It’s so bad it’s good.) In the late 90’s, I started gaming and found Role-Playing Games to be my favorite. By the time I started writing, my head was filled to bursting with worlds I couldn’t wait to put down on paper. I thoroughly enjoy Science Fiction and Dystopian, but Fantasy is my literary first love.
